Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our repair service.

Do I need to book before bringing my device in?

No, you’re very welcome to bring your device into the shop during our normal opening hours. You can briefly explain what’s happening when you drop it off and we’ll make a note of the problem. We’ll then assess the device properly in our workshop. If you’d prefer to contact us before coming in, you can also use our repair request form.

Do you charge for diagnosing a problem?

Yes, where proper investigation is needed our standard Diagnostic & Assessment charge is £30. This covers the testing and fault-finding needed to identify the problem, including dismantling where necessary. If you go ahead with the repair, the £30 is deducted from the repair cost. If you decide not to proceed, the £30 covers the diagnostic work already carried out.

When does the £30 diagnostic charge apply?

It applies when we need to investigate the cause of a problem rather than simply carry out a known job. Examples include computers that will not switch on, unclear display or charging faults, intermittent problems, crashing or freezing, slow performance that needs investigation, software problems, data recovery, malware or virus problems, motherboard faults and other unusual or unclear faults. Straightforward known jobs, such as an agreed screen replacement or upgrade, can be quoted without a diagnostic charge.

Do you repair devices while I wait?

Repairs are a drop-off service. We do not normally carry out repairs while you wait. Bring your device in and leave it with us so we can properly test and investigate the problem before carrying out the repair.

How long do repairs take?

It depends on the fault, parts availability and the work required. We will give you an indication once we have assessed the device.

What happens when I drop my computer off?

Just tell us briefly what you have noticed and we’ll make a note of it. You do not need to explain every detail or work out what is wrong yourself. We’ll take the device into the workshop, diagnose it properly and contact you if we need to clarify anything or discuss the repair options.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, card and bank transfer. If you are paying by bank transfer, the cleared funds must have reached our account before your device can be released. We’re happy to explain the payment options when your repair is ready for collection.

Do you use genuine parts?

Where appropriate, we use quality parts and will explain the available options before proceeding.

Can you recover my data?

We can assess data-recovery problems and explain what options may be available. Recovery is not guaranteed.

Do you repair motherboards?

Yes. We undertake component-level motherboard repairs where practical, rather than automatically replacing the whole board.

Do you repair phones?

Our current service focus is laptops, desktops and tablets rather than mobile phone repairs.

Do you repair Apple MacBooks?

Yes. We repair and diagnose Apple MacBooks, including hardware faults, charging problems, screen issues, battery problems, keyboard faults, software problems and other unusual or intermittent faults.

Do you upgrade Apple Macs?

Yes. We can advise on available upgrades for compatible Macs, including SSD and RAM upgrades where supported.

Do your repairs come with a warranty?

Yes. Repairs carried out by us are covered by a 90-day repair warranty. Any parts we fit are also covered by the applicable manufacturer warranty, which varies depending on the part and can range from 12 months up to 5 years. We will always honour the manufacturer warranty that applies to the part supplied.
